An article published on the website of the BBC has stated that experts are concerned about security issues as they relate to “smart meters” and the “smart grid”.

The article warned that:

“On a national level, the hacking of a nation’s entire power grid via its smart meter network could be catastrophic.”

It also discussed how “smart meters” in Puerto Rico had already been hacked (via the optical port that many “smart meters” feature) with substantial losses to the electricity companies through fraud.
